24.00€
Maria Fumaça is the debut album by Banda Black Rio, originally released in 1977 and widely regarded as a landmark record of Brazilian soul and funk from the 1970s.
Led by saxophonist and arranger Oberdan Magalhães, the group developed a distinctive sound that blends American funk, soul and jazz with Brazilian rhythms such as samba and choro. Recorded during the peak of the Black Rio cultural movement, which connected Brazilian Black music with the aesthetics of funk and soul, the album features powerful instrumental tracks built around tight grooves and rich arrangements. Songs such as “Maria Fumaça”, “Mr. Funky Samba” and “Na Baixa do Sapateiro” highlight the band’s strong horn section, driving bass lines and sophisticated orchestration, resulting in a vibrant record that remains highly influential among musicians, DJs and producers.
