The Free Design – The Now Sound Redesigned

A creative tribute to the delicate, sophisticated world of 1960s sunshine pop, reimagined through electronic music, hip-hop, downtempo and sonic experimentation.

Drawing on The Free Design’s lush vocal harmonies and elaborate arrangements, this compilation brings together a series of remixes by artists from different generations and musical backgrounds. Madlib gives “Where Do I Go” a distinctive hip-hop approach, while Peanut Butter Wolf adds fresh rhythms to “Umbrellas”. The contributions from Stereolab and The High Llamas on “Harvey Daley Hix”, and Danger Mouse and Murs on “To a Black Boy”, highlight the versatility of the original compositions. Featuring artists such as Caribou, Super Furry Animals and Kid Koala, the result is an inventive bridge between psychedelic pop, sampling culture and contemporary electronic music, while retaining the melodic charm of the original recordings.
