Rita “Bo” Brown - Fuego Queer: Historia de la “Brigada George Jackson (ES)

    8.50€

In 1971, George Jackson—a prisoner aligned with the Black Panther Party—was murdered by his jailers. Years later, his spirit was taken up by a diverse group of activists in Seattle, Washington. The George Jackson Brigade brought together anarchists, communists, gay men, lesbians, heterosexuals, and Black, white, and Native people. Their shared background—stemming from the lowest class, marked by frequent stints in prison and daily police and social repression—served as a unifying bond. Their commitment to attacking state institutions and dismantling the many forms of oppression they faced led them to form one of the armed groups that emerged in the US during the turbulent 1970s.

…..This edition breaks the silence surrounding the Brigade’s history—a history long overshadowed by the prominence of other armed groups of the era, such as the Weather Underground and the Symbionese Liberation Army. The way they combined their experiences of oppression with anti-capitalist politics—and, while incarcerated, framed these issues within the broader struggle against the prison system—makes them one of the most authentic and groundbreaking collectives in the history of anti-system struggle over the last few decades.
…..Most of the members are still alive today and remain active in anti-capitalist and anti-prison collectives, striving to keep the memory of the Brigade and its struggle alive through talks, interviews, and writings—some of which are included in this book. This work serves as a valuable tool for the intersectional approach to activism; forty years later, we continue to endure a system that is racist, patriarchal, sexist, heteronormative, classist, and authoritarian—a system against which the intersection of oppressions remains a vital point of resistance.
