Al Berto - Vigílias

The "Pollen Grains" collection is composed of anthologies of poems chosen by poets. "Vigils" brings together poems by Al Berto selected by José Agostinho Baptista, who reveals how he felt about this encounter: Nothing, almost nothing, needs to be said about poets. Let them say everything, almost everything, let them surround us, let them touch us. Al Berto was one of those, he was like that: he surrounded, touched, was profoundly touched by life, by the faces of life. The flames of the high combustion of the poem burned within him, the restlessness of places and days, a continuous vigil. We belong, age-wise, to the same generation. We walk the same paths and others quite different. And now, when there is so much and so absurd talk of poetic generations, I feel like saying that, for me, a simple mortal particle, all this represents a false question, an academic or promotional pastime that almost always intends, subterraneously, to hide not-so-innocent machinations.
