Nuno M. Valente e Natacha C. Pereira - Bestiário Tradicional Português

The Traditional Portuguese Bestiary is the first work to gather and illustrate the fantastic creatures that populate the national imagination. Bogeyman, Boogeyman, Olharapos, Ganchas, and Trasgos are just a few examples of about 40 genuinely Portuguese creatures, most of which have never been illustrated before.

Using written sources and extensive oral collection, the authors sought to systematize very scattered and varied information, collected over the years by them and by the most illustrious Portuguese ethnographers, such as Leite de Vasconcelos, Consiglieri Pedroso, and also Alexandre Herculano, Júlio Dinis, and Teófilo Braga.

Nuno Matos Valente carried out the research and wrote the text, and Natacha Costa Pereira illustrated it, artistically interpreting centuries of collective memory.
