Camilo Castelo Branco - A Corja
18.00€
Published in 1880, the novel "A Corja" (The Slaughter) presents itself as a sequel to Eusébio Macário. It is the second facetious novel in a series that Camilo Castelo Branco saw as endless, thus parodically imitating the realistic pretensions of the great paintings or scenes that fueled the novel series.
In this humorous sequel, dominated by the intensity of satire, scenes and episodes featuring characters lacking in ethical and moral sense follow one another, particularly family members and those they encounter, in hilarious and laughable low-comedy skits. They represent a new, moneyed and grotesque bourgeoisie, an upstart race without moral principles and a sense of the ridiculous, in a profound and irremediable promiscuity and decadence.
