Rage Against the Machine is the debut studio album by American rock band Rage Against the Machine.

It was released on November 6, 1992, by Epic Records, four days after the release of the album's first single, "Killing in the Name." The album was largely based on the band’s first commercial demo tape of the same name, completed 11 months prior to the album's release. The tape included earlier versions of seven of the album’s ten tracks. With politically charged, revolutionary lyrics, the album is also known for its striking cover artwork, which features a graphic photograph of Vietnamese monk Thích Quảng Đức self-immolating in June 1963. The album received critical acclaim upon its release, with many reviewers highlighting its political themes and praising frontman Zack de la Rocha’s powerful vocal performance. It peaked at number 1 on the US Billboard Heatseekers chart and number 45 on the Billboard 200, and was later certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In Rolling Stone’s lists, it was ranked number 24 among the “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time” and, in 2020, number 221 in the updated “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”
