Synthpop, minimal wave, post-punk, gothic, new romantic: fans and critics alike have delved into their classic dictionaries to describe Nation of Language's captivating work. And if you still can't precisely define the band, it's because the plan is working. Frontman Ian Richard Devaney has become adept at expanding what synth-driven music can evoke, so that his work is both an extrasensory journey and an all-too-human destination. With that experience in mind, he composed the band's fourth album, the spectral and spacious Dance Called Memory, utilizing a more diverse palette that incorporates early 2000s electronic music, Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine, and the most visionary Brian Eno.
