Martemorte is the conceptual debut album by Monchmonch, released on 17 June 2025, emerging from a collaborative project between Brazil and Portugal.
Recorded with two separate line-ups — one in Brazil and another in Portugal — the album blends experimental punk, noise and tropical references, in what the artist refers to as a “comic-album”. The dystopian narrative revolves around billionaires colonising Mars while witnessing Earth’s collapse, delivered with humour, irony and an absurd symbolic use of pão de queijo as a metaphor for power, desire and banality. The artwork and design are accompanied by a comic book interpreting each of the nine tracks, created by multiple independent illustrators. Additionally, the vinyl edition includes an exclusive B-side — Dos Entulhos Loucos Cavam Sol — offering a more introspective sound featuring acoustic guitars and synths. Musically, the album transitions from anarchic bursts inspired by Viagra Boys and Tom Zé to more melancholic moments reminiscent of Radiohead, reflecting the artist’s immigrant experience and his blend of noise and subtlety.
