Kamasi Washington – The Epic

An ambitious contemporary jazz album, originally released in 2015 as a three-disc set featuring 17 tracks.

The saxophonist is joined by musicians including Ryan Porter, Cameron Graves, Ronald Bruner Jr. and Miles Mosley, while vocal contributions from Patrice Quinn and his father, Rickey Washington, add further dimensions to the compositions. Highlights include “change of the guard”, “miss understanding”, “re run home” and the epic “clair de lune”, blending jazz, soul, funk and classical music. An expansive, richly orchestrated work built around large ensemble arrangements and a strong spiritual dimension.
