Helicon - God Intentions

God Intentions is the third studio album by Scottish band Helicon, released in 2023.

The record represents the band’s most ambitious and collaborative work to date, recorded at Dystopia Studio in Glasgow and mastered by Mark Gardener. It features contributions from guest musicians, including the Rhona MacFarlane String Quartet, singer and flautist Lavinia Blackwall, and avant‑garde violinist Sotho Houle, expanding the band’s sonic palette. Musically, God Intentions embraces cinematic psychedelia, with layers of fuzzed guitars, deep reverb, spacious synths and string sections that create density and sonic breadth. The central themes revolve around regret, redemption and resurrection, inspired by personal experiences of vocalist and guitarist John‑Paul Hughes. Despite the band’s characteristic dark tone, the album introduces a more positive and luminous dimension, establishing Helicon as a leading force in modern psychedelic rock with epic depth and orchestral texture.
