Gram Parsons – GP

GP is Gram Parsons’ first solo album, released in 1973 by Reprise Records.

It compiles recordings from September and October 1972, with esteemed musicians including James Burton on guitar, Glen D. Hardin on piano and organ, Ronnie Tutt on drums, and a standout vocal contribution from Emmylou Harris. The album blends Parsons’ originals with covers — for instance “That’s All It Took” by George Jones — and embodies his idea of “Cosmic American Music,” a fusion of classic country, soul, R&B, gospel, and Southern influences. The lyrics touch on love, guilt, memory, and spirituality, in tracks such as “Still Feeling Blue,” “A Song for You,” “She,” and “Big Mouth Blues.” GP feels intimate and emotional but also ambitious, nostalgic and powerful, establishing Parsons as a unique voice in country‑rock.
