The Starrr of the Queen of Life is the new album by visionary musician, filmmaker, and artist DEBBY FRIDAY, the follow-up to GOOD LUCK (2023), which won the Polaris Prize.

An exhilarating album, it brings her radically honest vision to the dance floor through empowering, experimental pop anthems inspired by techno, post-punk, and hip-hop. For the Nigerian-Canadian scholar, being a “starrr” means living in extremes: public versus private, arrogance versus humility, flight versus fall. Rich in meaning, The Starrr of the Queen of Life overflows with coded references, weaving love letters and hints with names of it-girl perfumes, French cognac, and Hellenistic prophetesses, manifesting Friday’s pursuit of an experimental pop sound that is entirely her own. On The Starrr of the Queen of Life, Debby Friday takes flight, spreading her wings, following the sound of her own chameleonic voice. Produced by DEBBY FRIDAY and Darcy Baylis (Wicca Phase Springs Eternal) in London, with additional production from Graham Walsh (METZ, Alvvays, Holy Fuck), Tayhana, and remghost on select tracks. “In the Club” features a guest appearance by Detroit techno band HiTech.
