Released on February 13, 1970, "Black Sabbath" is the debut album by the legendary British band Black Sabbath.
Often credited as the birth of heavy metal, this album introduced the world to the band’s dark, doom-laden sound, characterized by heavy guitar riffs, eerie atmospheres, and occult-inspired lyrics. Songs like "Black Sabbath," "The Wizard," and "N.I.B." set the blueprint for the genre, influencing countless metal bands for generations. From a technical perspective, Tony Iommi's downtuned guitar created a heavier, more sinister tone, a signature sound developed after he lost the tips of two fingers in an accident. The album was recorded in just one day at Regent Sound Studios in London, with most tracks captured live. The use of tritone intervals (often called the “devil’s note”) in the title track gave the album a uniquely ominous feel, making it a landmark in rock history.
