Amália Rodrigues – Cordas

Released posthumously in 2020, "Cordas" offers a new perspective on the voice of Amália Rodrigues, accompanied solely by string instruments.

Taken from recordings made between the 1960s and 1970s, this album presents her performance in a more exposed, intimate and emotionally intense light, supported by arrangements that replace the traditional Portuguese guitar and viola with classical strings such as cello, violin and harp. The result is an almost chamber-like atmosphere, where fado meets classical music without losing its profoundly Portuguese soul. The absence of percussion or traditional backing allows for a deeper appreciation of Amália’s emotional range and unmistakable phrasing. "Cordas" is a delicate and innovative tribute to her artistry, inviting listeners to rediscover the fado icon in a serene, melancholic and strikingly contemporary setting.
