Told and illustrated with the fun, expressive, and deeply human style of Miguel, this is one of my most personal stories—a reflection on the end of my marriage and a kind of literal self-help for my own struggle to balance work and life. I decided it would be funnier if the protagonist wasn’t me, but a guy who gives his all to the craft of writing instruction manuals for household appliances. He’s the Saramago of this unsung art. And one day, with the unlikely help of a house burglar, he has an epiphany: the only way to become a better person is to use his craft to write the instruction manual for his own life.
