Miguel Miranda - O Esquecimento Global

The gigantic and uncontrollable fires engulfed the forests, fields, and houses of the countryside, causing an exodus of the population to the city. Beyond the city, nothing else exists. Except black earth and petrified trees. The air of the countryside, once pure and fresh, is now pestilent, the breath of the wind is lethal. From nowhere, plagues and epidemics arise, decimating humanity and confining it to the town – the only safe place.
Somewhere within the city, a passionate sociopathic writer inhabits an insane condominium, where everyone shouts and no one knows each other. He lives alternately with three compulsions: his passion for his beloved, the writing of a play, and the urge to kill strangers. The writer lives a game of boxes: the passion inside the house, the house inside the condominium, the condominium inside the city. The city inside nothing. The protagonist's relationships are turbulent and strange: with his beloved, present and absent at the same time; with his editor; with his psychiatrist; with the building manager.
Global Oblivion is an essay on the supreme state of chaos to which the modern way of life could lead, with overcrowded cities, abandoned countryside, climate change, the scourge of forest fires, and increasingly virulent pandemics. The insanity is global: affecting the protagonists and all the characters, infected by the chaos and global amnesia about the reasons that lead society to march at a rapid pace towards the abyss.
