In this work, the author studies social relations in the rural environment of Rio Grande do Sul during the first half of the 20th century.
Methodologically, he resorted to the study of the "history of a life," having collected, electromagnetically, the testimony of "a maid inside" a large Alentejo farmhouse.

Among the various aspects of the interpersonal relationship between owners and servants, the remaining behaviors of jus primae noctis ("right of first night") are emphasized, which in Alentejo persisted until relatively late. In this context, a testimony is presented and analyzed, corresponding to the beginning of the 20th century.
