    F. Scott Fitzgerald - O Grande Gatsby (Ed. Bilingue)

Compasso dos Ventos Editora presents F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece – "The Great Gatsby" – one of the greatest classics of American literature in an exclusive bilingual deluxe edition.

Considered by the "Modern Library" as the second best English-language novel of the 20th century, and by its author as 'something extraordinary, beautiful and simple', Compasso dos Ventos Editorial launches in an exclusive bilingual deluxe hardcover edition of "The Great Gatsby," a masterpiece by the American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. "The Great Gatsby" is considered the great American novel and standard reading in schools and universities worldwide.

Jay Gatsby is a mysterious millionaire in 1920s New York, owner of a luxurious mansion on the coastal region of Long Island, where he throws lavish parties frequented by the New York elite, writers, film producers, artists, athletes, gangsters, and beautiful girls seeking social advancement. The mystery surrounding Gatsby, an elegant and enigmatic man, and his interest in the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, a woman married to the brutish, intolerant, but wealthy Tom Buchanan, are the thread that leads to tragic events set in motion when Nick Carraway, the omnipresent narrator of the story, moves into a humble bungalow near Gatsby's mansion and questions the exuberance, arrogance, and lack of culture of the other characters. This work, one of the most representative of the American novel, describes the life of high society through a sharp critical reflection. Besides brilliantly portraying a society obsessed with wealth and status, the novel also presents the problems of the economy during the interwar period, the prohibition of alcohol sales, the rise of organized crime such as bootlegging, the emergence of new millionaires, and the love story between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.

It has been adapted for film six times, the first version in 1926, starring Warner Baxter and Lois Wilson (this adaptation is lost, and only a trailer exists in the US National Archives). The most popular version is Jack Clayton's 1974 film, with a screenplay by Francis Coppola and starring Robert Redford. In 2013, the most recent version, directed by the acclaimed Baz Luhrmann, stars Leonardo DiCaprio (Jay Gatsby), Carey Mulligan (Daisy Buchanan), Tobey Maguire (Nick Carraway), and Joel Edgerton (Tom Buchanan). In addition to film adaptations, it has also been adapted for theater, radio dramas, comic books, and opera, which premiered at the New York Metropolitan Opera.
