Daniel Defoe - As Novas Aventuras de Robinson Crusoe
17.90€
This is the first Portuguese-language translation of the continuation of the adventures of the most famous castaway in universal literature.
Published in 1719, a few months after its famous predecessor, also supposedly written by Robinson Crusoe himself, here is the novel that follows Robinson's adventures after leaving the island. Just as the first novel was inspired by the adventures of the sailor Alexander Selkirk, as well as by some sources of classical Arabic literature then in vogue in French translations, these "new adventures" are largely based on travel diaries detailing the British mission that, between 1693 and 1695, sailed from Moscow to Beijing.
Mixing fact and fiction, Defoe, in his best style and always with his pen ready for social criticism, recounts the adventures of his hero on a final visit to the island as well as on trips through Madagascar, China, Southwest Asia, and Siberia.
A blend of great adventure novel, journalistic account, social criticism (of considerable relevance today, it must be said), and great fiction, this second volume is also a testament to the remarkable writing prowess of the father of British journalism and one of the greatest names in world literature.
