Charles Dickens - Grandes Esperanças

The young orphan Philip Pirrip, known to all as Pip, was raised by his sister, who lives with a blacksmith, Joe, in a small village near Kent in the mid-19th century. One day, Pip is invited to visit the mysterious Miss Havisham, an old lady who owns the richest and most decrepit mansion in the entire county. His mission is to be the companion of Estella, Miss Havisham's young ward, but the reality is very different from what it seems: Pip is simply a guinea pig for Estella, who is being trained by Miss Havisham as the ultimate revenge against all men. The goal of this training is simply to "break hearts."
"Great Expectations" was Dickens' greatest publishing success and has captured the imagination of generations of readers. A coming-of-age novel that follows the protagonist from the last years of his childhood to adulthood, it is also a momentous work about the relationships between men and women and the hatred and love that permeate them. It is also a portrait of an era and a morality that is still prevalent; at the same time an adventure novel, a romantic story, a philosophical meditation on the values that govern us, it is, above all, a book about the hopes we have and that others have for us in the future.
