António Cabrita - Da Santidade. Na Perspetiva dos Pangolins

The narrative places us in an African country blessed with beautiful beaches and well-crafted laws that are not enforced. More diligent are the Chinese, doubling their agreed-upon annual timber quota through clandestine extractions that deforest the land, or diverting ivory and pangolin scales for their traditional medicine; more diligent are the teachers, doctors, farmers, and technicians, who struggle to survive amidst the chaos of a political environment indifferent to the common good and the rampant violence that emerges across the country, while street children multiply across the globe and, in the north, child soldiers.

This political satire takes place in 2020, when fifty young people were taken to a football field by insurgents, who beheaded them while the devil rubbed his eye.

Domingo and Germana are two active and promising young people trying to love each other in a land that is dwindling to ghosts and pangolins.
